Walter J. Chlysta MD, FACS

 







Walter J. Chlysta MD, FACS is a Board Certified surgeon.  His practice  encompasses obesity surgery, generalDr. Chlysta surgery, endoscopy and other advanced laparoscopic procedures.
 
He received a Bachelor of Science from Kent State University in 1990.  He earned his medical degree with honors from the Ohio State University College of Medicine.  While at Ohio State he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honorary Society and graduated Cum Laude in 1994.

Dr. Chlysta completed internship and residency at Akron General Medical Center in 1999.  One of his main clinical interests during this period was advanced laparoscopic surgery.  In 1999 he received additional training in advanced laparoscopic surgery at The Yale Laparoscopic Center in New Haven, Connecticut. 
 
In 2001 he achieved  Board Certification by The American Board of Surgery and was appointed as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Surgery at the Northeast Ohio Universities College of Medicine.
 
He was granted Fellow status in the American College of Surgeons (FACS) in 2003 and was admitted as a full member of the American Society of Bariatric Surgery in 2004.  In 2005 Dr. Chlysta was appointed as Medical Director of the Bariatric Center at Akron General Medical Center.




















Akron General Medical Center is a 537 bed, not-for-profit, tertiary medical center.  It is a level I trauma center andAkron General Medical Center host to state-of-the-art technology.  Post graduate specialty training is offered in General Surgery, Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Psychiatry, Emergency Medicine, Orthopedic Surgery, Urology, Plastic Surgery and Obstetrics/Gynecology. 
 
At Akron General Medical Center, bariatric  patients are given specialized care.  Activity, beds, commodes and diets are tailored to the needs of the post operative bariatric patient.  In addition, a bariatric surgery support group is held monthly. Learn more at
